Kathryn Miller-Jensen to become PEB Director

Kathryn Miller-Jensen, a Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Yale Engineering and of Molecular, Cellular & Developmental Biology at Yale FAS has been appointed as the new Director of the program in Physical & Engineering Biology (PEB).
Miller-Jensen succeeds in this role the longtime director and program founding member, Corey O’Hern, Professor and Chair of Mechanical Engineering. O’Hern also has appointments in the departments of Materials Science, Physics, Applied Physics and program in Computational Biology & Biomedical Informatics.
Prof. Miller-Jensen’s research uses quantitative, systems-level approaches to study intracellular and extracellular signaling networks regulating immune cell functions. Her lab is particularly interested in how variability between single cells impacts immune responses. Research projects in the lab focus on the regulation of macrophage activation in response to pathogenic stimulation and within tumor microenvironments; and how signaling networks regulate the reactivation of latent HIV in T cells.

She brings with her a long history of involvement and leadership in the PEB’s research and educational program and deep experience in graduate education,” said Damon Clark, Professor of Molecular, Cellular & Developmental Biology, of Physics and of Neuroscience and Director of the Yale Quantitative Biology Institute (QBio). Prof. Miller-Jensen is also the Director of Graduate Studies (DGS) in the PhD program in Biomedical Engineering.
Before joining the faculty at Yale, Miller-Jensen was an NIH Postdoctoral Fellow at UC Berkeley in the Schaffer laboratory. She received her Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering at MIT with Doug Lauffenburger and her B.E. & B.A. degrees at Dartmouth College.
